Got a problem with your car? If it’s a Tesla, it’ll diagnose the fault and order the correct part, before prompting you to organise a date with your nearest dealer.
Tesla is constantly making headlines with the small features embedded in its infotainment system. Some are silly, like the inbuilt whoopee cushion, others are very clever.
A Model 3 owner has discovered one of the clever ones, posting an image of an automated message about a faulty part on Reddit.
“An unexpected condition has been detected with the Power Conversion System on your Model 3. A replacement part has been pre-shipped to your preferred Tesla Service Centre,” the message said.
“Please use your Tesla Mobile App or your Tesla account to schedule a service visit appointment now.”
Tesla confirmed its cars can “keep tabs on certain components to let you know if they need replacing and order parts ahead of your next service visit” in the USA, likening it to “skipping the doctor and going right to the pharmacy”.
Some brands offer ‘condition-based servicing’, where they tell the driver when maintenance is required, but Tesla’s system takes that concept to another level by automatically ordering the required parts.
