Scott Peters (D-CA), who serves California’s 52nd Congressional District, is speaking during the Awards Luncheon at the upcoming Waterpower Week in Washington.

He was first elected in 2012 and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he advocates for investment in basic scientific research and supports the military’s goals to enhance their energy security.

His background includes a 15-year career as an environmental lawyer. Peters was elected to the San Diego City Council, becoming the first City Council President. The governor appointed him to the Commission on Tax Policy in the New Economy in 2001, and the Speaker of the Assembly appointed him to the California Coastal Commission in 2002.

Before pursuing his law degree, Peters worked as an economist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In 2017, during a Subcommittee on Energy and Commerce meeting, Peters said: “The transition to a clean economy is happening right now. America has an opportunity to diversify our energy sources and give our children a future with cleaner air, cleaner water and greater economic opportunities, and hydropower plays an important role.”

The luncheon is on Tuesday, April 2.

Waterpower Week in Washington – which incorporates the National Hydropower Association Annual Conference and the International Marine Renewable Energy Conference – takes place April 1 through 3 in Washington, D.C.
