Like several of its Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) neighbors, Bahrain is gearing up for a rapid modernization of its military capabilities.

Having signed up to purchase new-build Block 70-standard F-16 Fighting Falcons last year from Lockheed Martin, the Gulf island state also is investing in new attack helicopters in the form of Bell’s AH-1Z Viper and has taken delivery of its first tactical airlifter, one of two ex-British Royal Air Force Lockheed C-130J Hercules.
